Durga Puja - Navratra begins

Sharad Navratri 2012 Dates
16 October 2012 - 24 October 2012

Shri Durga Puja is celebrated with pomp and glory twice a year. Once in the month of Chaitra and once in the month of Ashwin. This festival takes place during the 'Shukla Paksha' or bright half of the moon.

Goddess Durga is prayed to in her nine 'swaroops' or images with one day devoted to each of her swaroops...Therefore, this festival is also called 'Navratra' or nine nights.

Goddess Durga is the Goddess of 'Shakti' or power. Her prayer grants the devotee every Happiness, every Fortune, and every Fulfillment in life. During the nine days, she is prayed to in her Maha Lakshmi, Maha Swarsati, and Maha Kali forms.

Another important form of Goddess Durga is 'Prakriti' or Nature. She exists everywhere, even within us. We are all her children. As we pray to her this year, lets try to find her in us and outside us.
